Connect Varly to ChatGPT
Add Varly as an app in ChatGPT, so you can ask about your research and build tests from the chat.
In this article
Varly can be added to ChatGPT as an app (the technical name is an MCP server). Once it's connected, you can ask ChatGPT about heatmaps, click impact and surveys, have it write test ideas and build A/B test variants, and launch them from the chat. ChatGPT works with your own Varly login, so it sees exactly the clients and sites you can see, and nothing more.
Step 1: Copy the Varly address
- In Varly, click your name or photo at the top right to open Account.
- Find the card Connect Claude or ChatGPT.
- Click the copy button next to the address. It ends with
/mcp.
Step 2: Create the app in ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT, go to Settings, then Apps.
- Create an app and paste the Varly address.
- Choose OAuth as the sign-in method.
Step 3: Log in and allow
- ChatGPT opens a Varly window. Log in to Varly if you're asked to.
- Varly shows which app wants to connect, what it will be able to do, and for which clients or shops.
- Check the list and click the Allow button, which shows the app's name. Click Cancel if you don't want to connect.
You're back in ChatGPT, and Varly is connected. Try asking: "Which clients do I have in Varly?"
What ChatGPT may do
On the consent screen, Varly lists what the app asks for. Depending on that, ChatGPT can:
| Permission | What it means |
|---|---|
| Read | Read research, ideas and experiment results for the clients you can access. |
| Create drafts | Create drafts: ideas, surveys and A/B test variants. Nothing goes live. |
| Launch | Launch and stop A/B tests on your live site, after showing you the preview link and the test plan in the chat. |
It also confirms who you are (your name and email address) and stays connected until you disconnect it.
Your role in Varly still applies. If you're a Viewer for a client, ChatGPT can only read that client's data, whatever you allowed. Creating drafts and launching need the Editor or Owner role. See Team roles.
Check or remove the connection
On your Account page, under Connected apps, you see each connected app, what it may do (for example Can read and create drafts) and since when.
To remove it, click Disconnect. This works right away: ChatGPT can no longer reach Varly, and has to be connected and allowed again to use it.
Common problems
ChatGPT asks which client you mean. That's on purpose. Varly never guesses a client. If you have more than one, tell ChatGPT the exact client name. See What you can ask the assistant.
ChatGPT says the connection is read-only, or may not launch tests. The connection wasn't allowed to do that. Disconnect it under Account → Connected apps and connect again. If it still can't launch, ask ChatGPT to put the test forward for launch instead: someone then launches it in Varly.
ChatGPT says "You have read-only access to this client in Varly." Your role for that client is Viewer. Ask an owner to change it.
The sign-in doesn't start. Check that you chose OAuth as the sign-in method and that the address ends with /mcp.
